We used telephones to make practice 111 calls. We made a poster to show how to stay underneath the poisonous smoke to get out. Enjoy the video.

Week 10 Term 3

This Thursday we are doing the real Cross Country. It is starting at 11 o'clock and finishes at 12:30 in time for lunch. On Thursday morning we will have our 3 minute Basic Facts Challenge so all of the yellow cards need to be back on Thursday morning. Keep practising at home every night this week to get faster and better. Junior Choir has been invited to sing at this Friday's assembly at about 2:10 so if you missed us at the Lake Wanaka Centre you can come and watch. Wendy, Marj and Jo thought that we sang splendidly last Wednesday night. Two weeks to until the holidays. Dont forget to have a go at leaving a comment on our Blog. Bye from Room 10.

EOTC Bike Skills Day

We started our 'Bike Skills' day off with a technology challenge. The children had to work together in small groups to make a bike. The only things allowed were newspaper, cellotape and lots of imagination. Skills needed were problem solving and cooperation to roll, fold, twist and join the paper to make the shapes needed for the bike.

EOTC Mt Iron Walk

What a beautiful winter's day to walk up Mt Iron. Pod 3 & 4 children put in a great effort to complete the walk. Well done guy's!

Arrowtown Goldmining Trip

Here we are off on another trip to Arrowtown to find out more about the gold mining days.  Oh we do love class trips. In Arrowtown we went on a Historic Walk along the main street. We had to match up pictures of the old buildings to another picture of what the goldminer would have bought there.  Then we had an exciting scavenger hunt in the museum.  The old school room was really funny.  Some of us did not pass the finger nail inspection!! After lunch we were down at the river washing aprons in the freezing cold water, making cream and gold panning.  Eleven of us found gold!!! Soon we will be experts on goldmining.  Just ask any one of us something.  Here are some photos of our happy day. Arrowtown Goldmining Trip on PhotoPeach

Cromwell Trip

We had a great time visiting Cromwell even though it was a cold day.  We saw lots of things at the museum.  We walked around Old Cromwell Town and had lunch looking out at the Kawarau River.  After lunch we went to the Kawarau Mining Centre. We got to touch some real gold nuggets!!  And ...  we saw a stamper battery just like the model machine at the muesum.  The man got it going to show how it crushed the rocks to find the gold.  It is amazing to watch the rods going up and down as well as hear the stamping noises it made. We also walked around the Goldmining Village.  Cromwell Goldmining Day was alot of fun. Gold Panning Day at School

Room 10 had a great time learning how to gold pan with Julie and David.  What a surprise it was to find gold in the bottom of our pans. Here is a slide show of us in action.

Self Portraits

Room 10 have had a wonderful time drawing self portraits. We used mirrors and our hands to see and feel where our facial features and body parts are positioned. We used pastels to draw and colour our portraits. We are so proud of our final results, especially the blending of two colours for our hair!

Welcome to 2012

Hi everyone.
Welcome to our Pihipihi 10 Blogspot. We have had a busy start to the year. The children are settling into new routines well. I have already met some parents when you have been dropping off or collecting your children. I am looking forward to our "Meet the Teacher" evening next week, and our goal setting interviews in week 5 when I can get to know all of you. Please come and see me earlier if you have anything at all you wish to discuss (note that I am on Road Patrol duty on Totara Terrace from 3.00 to 3:15 each day. After that I am generally back in the class).
We look forward to a busy year of learning experiences. Check into our Blog to keep up to date with our classroom activities.
Regards Marj
